The MPC8308 based Smart Energy Gateway Reference Design provides customers with highly integrated reference design boards that can help shorten customers’ time to market. The reference designs are aimed at small-to-medium business and consumer applications, such as power line modem and energy gateway. The cost-effective boards are based on the MPC8308 processor, built on Power Architecture™ technology, along with leading-edge external components to help customers quickly design and implement their target application. |
The MPC8308 reference design is based on the e300 core, built on Power Architecture Technology, which has a frequency range of 266 to 400MHz. It supports 16KB instruction cache and 16KB of data cache. MPC8308 supports two Gigabit Ethernet controllers, x1 PCI Express link, high speed USB2.0, SDHC, enhanced local bus and DDR2 memory controller.
The MPC8308 based smart energy gateway platform features 128MB DDR2 for data, and 32MB DDR2 for ECC. It has 8MB NOR flash and 64MB NAND flash. It includes both Gigabit PHY and 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch. Other peripherals include 1-port USB on-the-go (OTG), x1 Mini PCI Express slot and SD card connector, which enables user to insert a SD card for additional storage purposes. The SD slot can also be used to connect to a SDIO Wireless LAN card. The MPC8308 reference design includes an on-board Zigbee IEE 802.15.4, 2.4GHz RF transceiver, which can be used for home automation and smart energy applications. It also includes a header (both SPI and UART interfaces) for Cenelec Band-A applications ie, OFDM Power line communication, which can be used for controlling various appliances at home. Microcontroller is also included for power-up, power monitoring, reset control, and IR (Infra Red) applications, and is designed in Mini-ITX form factor. |
