Project
The objective was to design and develop the hardware and the software for a Real Time Location device. The locating device uses GPS satellite technology and communicates to a Server over the GSM module.
Challenges
The various teams need to very closely work together to ensure timely completion of the project. This proved challenging, as the hardware, software, and application teams were each at different locations. The full team had to work hard to incorporate various changes required by the customer while still meeting their deadline. Identifying the right components and modules to keep the cost low was a real test.
Solution
GDA's core team of hardware and software engineers worked on the project to demonstrate the product's effectiveness. The GDA team went beyond the requirements and proposed the architecture for the product.
Key Features
- A GPS module supporting Longitude , Latitude, and Altitude based on the customer-agreed standard was generated
- A GSM Module was created to communicate with an external host web application via SMS-Email gateway of a wireless carrier.
- ARM Linux was ported on a Samsung processor.
